The thing hit me first time holding this plate was the weight. It is unexpectedly light for a wood plate, made me question if it is made from solid wood and not from pressed wood. I had the urge to cut into one of them (and ultimately ruin it), and check what’s inside :D. I didn’t cut in it, it is possibly made from a very light weight wood, like bass or balsa. There is minimal finishing which is desired since it serves for holding food. The most value about this product is the design! How wonderfully thoughtful to shape it as a painter palette! Painters’ palette serves to sample and mix paint colors, this one serves to sample food, great analogy! The faint, pressed, grape design on the plates is very cute, prompted me to serve a grapes-cheese snack with some light white wine on them for the first round in use, though our wine glasses at hand are an awkward fit in the glass holding slit, they were wobbling profoundly. Lately, we skip the wine altogether, and just use them to plate snacks. What I love about these palettes: easy to hold, hold small amounts of food (no over snacking!), decorative. For the gritty: mystery wood (?!), not easy to clean (the carved design catches food particles in the grooves), feels fragileAlso, before first using them they require a thorough cleaning and sanitizing. I recommend to use hand brush for cleaning, to be sure to remove everything from the grooves in the middle, as well.Overall, I’m happy with this order: it is a great addition to wow our guests or just have a little light snack time during watching our favorite TV-shows.
