This one is painted in black and decorated with a golden dragon.Phalluses have a strong historic and spiritual significance in Bhutan. They can be seen painted on homes or carved in wood, installed above doorways and under eaves to ward off evil. Phalluses are an ode to Drukpa Kuenley, known as the “Divine Madman”. This lama came from Tibet and blew the lid off orthodoxy with his philandering ways, non-conformist lifestyle, bawdy wit, and poetry.
